How to apply for your pension

Before submitting a pension application it is worth checking your contribution record through the INPS Contribution Statement (Estratto Conto Contributivo), which summarises the contributions paid over your working life. This step lets you identify any missing periods (work abroad, military service, credited periods) to regularise or document before applying. Once you have confirmed that you qualify, the pension application is completed and submitted electronically to INPS, which then begins its review. Additional documents may be requested at this stage. When the review is complete, INPS notifies you of the outcome and, if the application is approved, the start date and the amount of your pension. The age and contribution requirements vary depending on the type of pension (old-age, early retirement) and the rules in force at the time you apply: a personalised assessment of your situation is always advisable.
