Documents for inheritance succession

The documents you need for an inheritance succession.

Starting an inheritance succession means gathering documentation about the deceased and the estate being inherited. In general you will need: the death certificate, the deceased's family status certificate as at the date of death, the personal details and tax codes of the heirs, and the will, if there is one. As regards the estate itself, you will need the land registry details of any property owned, bank and post office statements showing the balance as at the date of death, and documentation on other assets (shareholdings, vehicles, insurance policies). The declaration of succession must be filed within the deadlines set by law, and involves calculating any taxes due based on the value and composition of the inherited estate. Where there is no will, the rules of intestate succession apply, setting out how the estate is divided among the heirs.
